the nervous interviewer
Written by Poe Chen

today i conducted my very first interview for microsoft (as one of the interviewers). i was so nervous preparing for the interview and even more nervous when i started the interview.  it didn't make any sense - i'm pretty sure i was more nervous than the candidate : )

my nervousness disappeared quickly though and i really enjoyed meeting the candidate and trying to explore his skills, his potential and his fit for the position.

being involved in interviewing and recruitment has been a goal of mine for awhile. i remember back when i was on the other of the fence, interviewing for different jobs, i'd always be looking out for what made an interviewer good and effective because i knew that one day i wanted to also be a good and effective interviewer. just the thought of being part of the recruitment process, being able to believe in someone's vision, passion and potential and being able to help make that decision to hire them, is just an amazing privilege.

hopefully next time i wont' be sweating so much when i conduct my next interview

oh yeh, heres a funny dilbert cartoon that i found when searching online for information about microsoft interviews

a fuller picture of my life
Written by Poe Chen

sometimes i randomly email friends out of the blue to touch base and when they reply, they'll almost always reply with something on the lines of "well from your blog it looks like you're doing great". when i see this it always makes me think - wow, blogs have the potential to really give a lopsided impression of how things are really going.

despite all the seemingly fun things that are going on in my life (expressed through this blog), i'm definately going through one of the toughest seasons in my life, dealing with not just tough wedding plans, but also dealing with broken friendships, depression, disappointment and finding the energy to keep my head up each day. i definately have my good days and bad days.

i'd hate to give ppl the impression that my life has and always has been easy, pain-free, happy & cruisey life. i always thought life would one day be like that, but i've come to realise that life simply isn't easy. there will be good seasons and tough seasons throughout our life, thats just life. its all about how we cherish the good times and also how we'll respond to the tough times in our lives.

thank you for all those ppl out there who have been there for me at different times in my life when i've really needed their support & encouragement to keep on going in life. i appreciate it.

rsi

"repetitive stress injury - a loose group of conditions from overuse of the computer, guitar, knife or similar motion or tool"

i feel like i ve been getting a little rsi with all the wedding tasks.  a little overuse of the guillotine and glue.  ive been cutting paper for invites, cutting paper for programs, cutting paper for place cards, glueing invites, glueing programs, glueing place cards, tieing invites, licking envelopes and the list goes on.  i feel like a machine but its all good.  however right now it seems like it would be much more fun and entertaining to get rsi playing a guitar, ukelele, hurdy-gurdy or something.
